"You're only [insert age here], you're still young"

What a patronizing thing to say. It may not always be the intention, but it's like passive-agressively telling someone that their feelings and problems aren't important. I don't personally get this a lot, but overhear it being said to other people all the time -- whether it's about school, work, dating, pimples, unicorns, or whatever. It's thinly-veiled politespeak for "you'll get over it" or "get off my lawn, lousy kids". Just rubs me the wrong way. Like sandpaper underwear.

I'm 19 right now. It's not a very big number (I am old enough to know how to count to 20). But still, it's the oldest I've ever been, you know?

  1. this post makes me laugh every time i read it you are hiiiilarious!

do you think things will be different when you turn 20 (and no longer a "teen")?

I'm 21, and people are telling me it's time to consider dating (and basically marriage)...and it doesnt seem like i'll be having 5 kids by 22 after all...at this rate!

it's interesting how "adults" think we're too young especially since it seems they grew up a lot faster than us (my mum moved to Canada by herself at 17 and didn't speak a work of english!)

actually, this raises another question: do you think we're overprotected? (generalization)
do you think life is easier now than it was when our parents were young?

anyway, im not sure this post really relates too much to yours haha but i must agree that yes sandpaper underwears are not fun.
